SomatoEmotional Release (SER)

SomatoEmotional Release is a therapeutic process that expands on the principles of Cranial Sacral Therapy to help rid the mind and body of the residual effects of trauma. Research efforts by Dr. John Upledger and biophysicist Dr. Zvi Karni led to the discovery that the body often retains (rather than dissipates) physical and emotional forces. This can be the result of an accident, injury or trauma.

What is an “energy cyst”?

The body or mind will protect itself from the results of the trauma by “walling it off” or creating what is called an “energy cyst.” Although a reasonably healthy person can adapt to these energy cysts, over time this can become more and more difficult to mange or keep stored. An energy cyst can produce secondary symptoms that seem completely unrelated to the original incident and that become more? and more difficult to suppress.

How does SER work?

The sensitive therapist uses imaging and dialoging in the SomatoEmotional Release process, and the gentle hands-on touch of Cranial Sacral Therapy to locate the energy cyst and release it. The patient does not need to analyze the cause of the problem and often will feel emotions released that were held since the trauma. The therapist can usually feel the body tissue soften as the release is completed, as the patient’s energy is regained and balanced.

What can the results of an SER treatment be?

By releasing the patterns stuck in the body and the mind, the results can be: an elimination of symptoms, increased energy being available for optimal healthy physical functioning, and an enhanced sense of wholeness and balance in the physical and emotional state. The patient will often feel peaceful or lighter after the treatment.
